Learning about The Internet Application Development Languages

Application Language map

Java, Visial Basic and Perl are the most popular languages for developing the Internet applications.  Before Java and Visual Basic became popular for last five year Perl was the most used Internet application developmental language for developing CGI applications.  However, CGI: the Common Gateway Interface could be developed with any languages such as C, C++, Visual Basic, etc.   Nevertheless programmers chose Perl to develop applications for Unix server plateform such as Appache. Most of the Windows server plateform CGI are getting written with other than Perl language such as C, C++ or Visual Basic.

  • Java: Compiling Language
  • Java changed the whole perspective of the Internet and transformed the web designing altogether to GUI interface. With Java you can develop two types of applications. One is the Applet, a client side application and the other is the Application that execute on the  server side.  Applets are used to manage objects such as graphic, sound, text data, etc on the client side.  Whereas Applications provide services from the server side such as processing data, uploading file, etc.  For Java to work on both client and server side Javabean must exists and these days every operating system such as Windows, Unix, Macintosh and Linex come with build-in Javabean.

  • Java Applet & App Syntax
  • Visual Basic: Interpretive Language
  • Visual Basic has brought about revolution in Windows application development for last six years.  Since the advancement of Windows NT operatring system for Networking server the scope of Visual Basic has gone beyond developing just stand alone applications.  It has become the language for Client Server application development. Due to Windows NT's drastic progress not only towards LAN but also towards the Internet and Intranet with its Internet Information Server Visual Basic has benefited a lot. IIS and Backoffice servers are all supported by Visual Basic programming. For example, the development of ADO and RDS technologies have given Visual Basic a new arena in client server programming.  ADO: ActiveX Data Object and RDS: Remote Data Souce have become the major technologies of the Internet Application Development for the ecommerce.  This technology has brought the ASP: Active Server Page ahead of all other server side scripting languages.

Topic Perl is an interpreted programming language known for its power and flexibility. It started out as a scripting language. It is an interpreted language that is optimized for string manipulation I/O (input-output stream) for the Unix system tasks.  Perl has gained attention from the beginning days of the World Wide Web as a quick and effective way to develop applications that provide much of the web's interactivity.

The Internet technology is highly intergrated in terms of the client browser and  the company servers. All programming languages are evolved around the web.  Java language transformed the technology and opened wide avenues of opportunity.  The Internet as it is is the vast technology which has both client side and server side programming scopes. Languages such as Perl in the beginning of the Internet and now Java and Visual Basic give a lot of scope and opporturnity for programmer, software developers and site builders. Perl is still widely used on Unix server environments..
